I looked into this myself a while ago. Patently there is a chance you could damage the heating element when you lot remove it. I'm not certain how fragile they actually are, but I didn't feel like finding out.

They probably tell you not to remove them for both reasons- Because if you impairment it it may not work properly or safely, and they do want y'all to purchase a new one.

I removed one once. ONCE! It'south risky. Make sure it's unplugged, merely warm.

You demand a drywall putty spatula thinger, a metal one. Empty the tank, and flip information technology upside down, or to whatsoever side the element is on. This requires a bit of patience, start from the side that the power chord goes in, there's commonly a box, which houses the transformer. Stick the spatula there, and gently, at a very slight bending poke in in that location. Use your judgment on how much force to use. It should get pretty easy. What always y'all do, do not bend the element in any mode shape or class. DO NOT peel information technology like a sticker. It's not meant to be able to do that, and doing then will kill it.

As for re-adhesion, the glue sucks, so I just used Metallic Duct Tape. Skilful luck.

Oh, and for clarity. I am in no mode responsible for any amercement to your chemical element. Practice this at your own gamble.

I have been meaning to do the same thing. The metal putty spatula is a great idea.

Run across, I was kind of hoping for an answer like this.... It seems like such a simple thing to make (for such a price) that I take trouble assertive it's so fragile. I'm gonna plug it in, heat it upward, unplug information technology and try the spatula thing.

Heat Mat Transplant

I accept done this with the smallest size Exo-Terra heat mat. It was stuck on in that location pretty well, but I used a metallic shim kinda like Dukegarda's spatula. The heater worked fine afterward and stuck practiced to the new tank.

I just recently moved it yet once again and it withal seems to work equally proficient as new. The agglutinative is starting to wear just it even so sticks.

The cardinal is to work slowly and carve up the adhesive from the tank, not just ripping it off.

yeah i take taken mine off and put it on new tanks and stuff. I didnt do information technology gently either, i just kinda grabbed and pulled. Bent it also and everything, only problem i had was it got less and less sticky with time.

Im not proverb yous should just yank yours off, perhaps i got lucky there, just im sure if you do it gingerly there is most no danger really

I took mine off by unplugging it and letting information technology cool a lil, simply still be warm...and pulled information technology off by hand starting on the side with the string. It still works like a charm! I but dont use them for my Ts anymore.

Merely thought I'd throw this out there, one of my buddies in Ontario uses this stuff for his lizards. Works like a pro, information technology's cheaper than the prepare made heatpads. Information technology'southward 100% customizable. And it's REALLY REALLY cheap.

I accept no experience with this stuff, merely he says it's neat.

You practice demand to know a trivial about soldering and the such. They practice include directions though. And a thermostat is required. But read the FAQ page. =D

Dunno where you're ownership those pads man. xx bucks a popular would be great. I got my 12" by 16" Hagen therma-pad for $49.99 CAD. Information technology'southward super efficient @ 8W/H, has a built in thermostat fix to xxx Celsius to prevent cooking accidents.

It'due south actually fairly simple engineering science, quite old. The large thing is, information technology's a specialty production. That's why they're so damn expensive.

Well I merely peeled the damn thing off, that wasn't too bad. They actually stick! Left a lot of agglutinative backside on the onetime tank which I will make clean off with lighter fluid. Thanks over again anybody.
